Minimise the risk of damage during removals

How to minimise the risk of damage to your belongings during furniture removals

Moving house should be an exciting time and nothing kills the mood faster than arriving at your new home only to discover some of your belongings have been damaged, or fragile items broken beyond repair. This is especially true if you’ve just made a long-haul trip from, say, Adelaide to Melbourne. You want to unpack and relax, not deal with the dismay of broken furniture, glassware or personal treasures.

At Australis Removals, we make absolutely every effort to ensure the safety of your belongings, but unfortunately accidents are a part of life and they do happen.

So, what should you do to protect your belongings?

  • Choose a reputable removalist

Firstly, remove as much risk as possible by using a reputable and experienced furniture removals company that is covered for public liability insurance. Australis Removals ticks all these boxes while some companies are inexperienced and either uninsured, or under-insured.

  • Removals insurance

Secondly, check that your own contents insurance will cover your belongings while they’re being moved. Personal insurance is up to you, but we can refer you to great companies that we’ve worked with over the years if you need to organise additional insurance.

  • Photos of high risk items

It’s also a good idea to take photos of any furniture or fragile items that are more susceptible to damage so you can check they arrive at your new home in the same condition they left your old one. This helps to avoid any potential disputes about when, and how much, damage occurred.

  • Pack carefully

Unfortunately, some items just aren’t as resilient as others. When you’re packing things that may not travel well, take extra care in how you pack them. We’ll also let you know if certain items carry an increased risk of damage and, of course, will do our best to secure them in the truck to minimise any potential damage.

Rest assured you’re in good hands…

  • Excellent customer service

You can also rest assured that, as a consumer, you’re protected by Australian Consumer Law and our desire to deliver excellent customer service. If something does get broken and it’s our fault, we will always work with you to find a solution.

  • Excellent track record for removals vs breakages

That said (blow our own trumpet time!) Australis has an amazing track-record when it comes to delivering furniture undamaged. We perform over 1000 removalist jobs each year and, of those jobs, only 3-4 experience any breakage whatsoever. Not sure you’ll find better industry stats for breakage prevention anywhere else…And these breaks are normally extremely minor and often due to rickety furniture or goods that are already falling apart.

As we’ve already said, accidents do happen. But it’s because we care and we know what we’re doing that we’re great at ensuring your things arrive in one piece. So, if you’d like the peace of mind of dealing with an insured furniture removals expert who doesn’t break your belongings, let’s chat about your removals needs.
